The import of vegetable oils in the country during April 2013 is reported at 654,827 tonnes, a decline by 29.23% compared to 925,334 tonnes in April 2012, as per the data compiled by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEAI). This import of 654,827 tonnes consists of 641,327 tonnes of edible oils and 13,500 tonnes of non-edible oils. The excessive purchase of vegetable oils from the global market in the last five months has led to slowdown in imports in April as inventory was huge.
